About Nicola

Nicola has been playing the flute for over 30 years. She first started teaching while still in high-school. Her first students were her next door neighbour and a high-school class mate. She has been teaching ever since!

 
Nicola Hayden

Nicola has over 20 years flute teaching experience in home studio, school and tertiary settings. She regularly prepares students for competitions, exams and auditions.

Nicola holds a Master of Music degree and has studied with some of the worlds’ leading flutists overseas, including Michael Cox, Gary Schocker and John Wion, courtesy of the Joyce Campbell-Loyd scholarship and the Empire Theatre’s Brian Boak Developing Performer Bursary awards.

Nicola’s playing experience includes orchestral, chamber and solo performances. She has been instrumental in founding several chamber music groups for various performances and has enjoyed delivering concerts in regional Queensland homesteads including Taabinga Homestead, Gabbinar Homestead and Jimbour House. She has played flute and piccolo in the pit for many of the Empire Theatre musical productions including Mary Poppins, Wicked, Cats, Spamalot and The Wizard of Oz.

Nicola is currently working with acoustic guitarist Mathew Joseph on a series of recordings available on Spotify or wherever you listen to music.

Nicola’s Qualifications: MMus, BMus (Hons), AMusA. Professional member Queensland Music Teachers Association, and Queensland Flute Guild member.
